我心中的“最美花园”,但只是获得好评。
Jason Ingram
Stone House Cottage Nursery
Worcestershire, UK
The main herbaceous borders at first light; the plants include
veronicastrums, phlox, thalictrums and monardas. It was part of a
shoot for a magazine. This was the opening shot; it captured
everything the garden was about in one shot that would work really
well as a double page spread. The light guided me to where I wanted
to set up. I had previously worked out where the sun was going to
be for first light.

From the end of April the fruit trees in small gardens are
covered with lots of white blossom. They are a place of rest for
people and a refuge for birds and small animals. I live in a
high-rise next door. This photograph was taken just before
sunset.

Orchard Path at Sunrise

The orchard at Great Dixter is planted with spring bulbs and later
in the year is a wild flower meadow. I had this image in my mind,
but was waiting for the right morning - for mist, and sunlight at
just the right time so that it would light up the pathway.

Dogwood Cover
Canberra, Australia
I was visiting the annual 'Floriade' event that is held in Canberra
and had been taking photographs of the beautiful flower displays
when I came across this tree. The dogwood tree was not part of the
display - it grows freely in the park. I was attracted to the
masses of beautiful pink flowers. I looked up and loved the
contrast of the pink against the blue sky - it pays to look
up!

Waterlily House Window
Kew Gardens, UK
The photograph is of one of the front windows by the entrance to
the Waterlilly House, Kew Gardens, taken from the outside. It was
taken in late September 2012, when the greenhouse plants were
mature and to be seen at their best. The Waterlily House has a
tropical environment, hot and humid, and houses gourds and
varieties of climbing plants besides the giant waterlilies for
which it is famed. A reflection of the Palm House first caught my
eye. Moving towards the window the frame became the more important
thing, preventing the foliage from escaping - wild reds and greens
behind the glass. I've visited and photographed the Waterlily House
many times in the past few years, this being my favourite spot in
the gardens.

The name Dicentra spectabilis is derived from the Greek words Di
and Kenton which mean two and spur, referring to the flower itself
which has two spurs, ‘spectabilis’ means spectacular. I was drawn
to this beautiful cottage garden plant for its whimsical
heart-shaped flowers dangling from arching stems.

Penstemon sunrise
Crater Lake National Park,
Oregon
Penstemon only grows in a very few isolated spots around Crater
Lake. Of course every year is different, but with some scouting you
can find small patches like this one. Often they don't always fit
into a good composition, but this location had the flowers, lake
and sunrise visible together. Wind was a problem, and I had to wait
a good deal of time for it to stop moving the flowers, which made
me nervous, thinking I would miss the sunrise. I was excited to
find an image that showed three aspects all together - the flowers,
lake and sunrise. I spent several days in this area and scouted
locations each day, so finding this particular spot in the early
morning darkness was much easier.

A Walk along the River
River Severn, Shrewsbury,
Shropshire, UK
This was taken on a misty morning, just as the sun rose along the
banks of the river. I waited a while for this couple to walk into
the mist, and as I took the shot, the rising sun illuminated the
leaves and fence very briefly. Five minutes later, the mist
disappeared. I often walk along this path on misty mornings and
have been impressed by the quiet beauty of this place. Finally
after a three year wait, everything came together.

Inner City farmer
Cleveland, Ohio, USA
‘Cleveland Crops’ is a program that teaches disabled inner city
youths and adults how to grow food on farms created in abandoned
lots. The food raised is sold to restaurants and through farmers’
markets. I was struck by the variety of shapes, sizes and colors of
the tomatoes in the box. When I asked him to pose his neutral
expression and the anonymity of the mirrored sunglasses highlighted
the natural caution of life in the inner city, which in my mind was
contrasted by the cheery tomatoes. I was working on and blogging a
photo project documenting young farmers. I had arranged to
photograph one of Cleveland's leaders in the slow food and urban
farming movement at this location when I saw and approached this
young man.

Corn Harvest
Sichuan province, People's Republic of China
Livestock and humans alike will be kept going through winter on
this fine crop of maize. The elderly farmer was looking after two
children while parents were at work in the fields. It is a remote
and hostile mountainous environment where man and giant panda vie
for survival. The panda is losing. The repetitive sculptural
pillars of corn and the magnificent splash of colour caught my eye:
amazing that it will all be husked and milled by hand. I was
visiting Wolong panda reserve in the mountains of western China. On
the way there we flashed past this little family farmyard. I
immediately shouted for the driver to stop. It was too good to
miss.

Plenty for Everyone
Nantlle, Caernarfon, Gwynedd,
UK
I have an old apple tree in my garden which produces a small crop
each year. The fallen apples are left entirely for wildlife to eat.
Birds, slugs, voles and mice all have a share. I wanted to capture
my resident wood mouse surrounded by apples, at ground level, to
show scale and a sense of intimacy. It was important to choose a
sunny day, late afternoon, in order to capture low light hitting
one side of the apples. I gathered up several apples, choosing a
variety of colours and placed them in a tight group near where I
had seen the mouse eat. Chopped apple was scattered between the
fruit to encourage feeding. I lay on my tummy with the lens resting
on a bean bag about two metres from the apples.

A Yao woman walks downhill along an ancient pathway in the
Dragon's Backbone rice terraces. Colourfully dressed in traditional
costume, the Yao women earn money carrying heavy loads uphill for
visitors. Rice has been grown in this region by the Zhuang and Yao
peoples for over 700 years. We had hiked up to the top of the

stayed in one of the traditional guest houses. We were therefore
able to step outside before dawn to watch the sunrise and to

The Race to Ripen
Bramley, Surrey, UK
As the September days shortened, the last fruits of tomato
'Gardeners' Delight' struggled to ripen through the greenhouse
glass. I grew the plants from seed but I think I transferred them
to the grow bag a bit later than ideal. This meant my best period
for fruit was late August and early September, leaving plenty of
green and semi-ripe tomatoes longing for light at the time this
photograph was taken in mid-September. The cascades of tiny
tomatoes seemed particularly poignant in the low light, especially
with the hint of approaching autumn in the air. I was busy
watering, but the sight made me pause. I considered fetching my
DSLR camera, but the tomatoes had not much time left and the moment
felt fleeting. So I put down my watering can and took the
photograph with the iPhone in my pocket. I knew immediately that
I'd made the right decision. This photo was an entirely spontaneous
capture of a moment that to me represented autumn and the
shortening of time and opportunity.

Mystic Morning
Kamerven Nature Reserve, Gerwen, Netherlands
It promised to be a cold windless night followed by a sunny day.
This will usually result in a layer of mist. These were the perfect
conditions to photograph the flowering cotton grass in its
environment. As I frequently visit this nature reserve close to
home I knew the sun would set also on the right spot this time of
year. I just had to make sure I was at the right place at the right
time. I want to show the often overlooked beauty of plants and
nature close to home. This way I can be there at the right place at
the right moment

Wiltshire Wildflower Meadow
Clattinger Farm,
Wiltshire, UK
This photograph was taken at Clattinger Farm, a Site of Special
Scientific Interest and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve. It
is considered the finest remaining example of enclosed lowland
grassland in the UK. This photograph, taken on a misty morning in
late June shows a wonderful range of typical flora of unimproved
grassland, including Devil's-bit Scabious, Great Burnet, Lady's
Bedstraw and Knapweed. The plants absolutely fill the landscape
with a variety of colours and forms, seemingly to extend onwards
without end, particularly on a misty morning at the height of the
flowering season. I visit this site every year throughout the
flowering season to photograph as many as possible of the various
species. I prefer to photograph at first light when conditions are
at their best, usually locating potential photographs the day
before. However, the right conditions rarely all come together at
the same time and it can take many visits over several seasons to
capture my impressions of this special place

Sunrise on Misty Mountains
Huangshan (Yellow

I have long been fascinated by the many traditional Chinese
paintings and modern photographs of beautiful, dramatic mountainous
scenes. I travelled from Canada to China, and this visit included a
three day stay at Huangshan. To see the sunrise, we left our hotel

visibility of daybreak is weather dependent: we were treated to a
spectacular display of the sun rising over the mountains and
flowing mist.
