Dear Colleagues,
Voluntary contributions to NUSsupportsHubei Fund.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation for your efforts and co-operation during this difficult time. In spite of the additional work involved, it has been heartening to witness the cohesiveness and strength of the NUS community. Many of you, together with our staff and students, are going beyond the call of duty – from innovating and implementing e-learning and online interactions, delivering food alongside students and colleagues, to supporting the mental well-being of those who are on Leave of Absence.
Our hearts are with Hubei, which is the epicentre of the virus outbreak and the most severely affected province. To support Hubei and its fight against the virus, and in response to colleagues who would like to donate to the humanitarian efforts there, we have set up an NUSsupportsHubei Fund. Provost and I, together with some senior colleagues, have agreed to seed this Fund. We would like to encourage faculty members to consider contributing to this Fund. Contributions are personal and voluntary, and your donation will be kept strictly confidential and anonymous, if preferred. Contributions received will be donated directly and in full to the Hubei branch of the Red Cross Society of China. We will also reach out to our alumni, particularly those in China, who may want to contribute to this Fund.
For those within the NUS community who may have been impacted by the virus situation, the University has set aside an NUS Resilience Fund to address their needs.
It is an uncertain road ahead, but even as we are inundated by news about the evolving 2019-nCov situation, let us remain calm. In the words of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, if we continue to play our part, practise good hygiene and social responsibility, we can overcome this together.
Thank you for your help in supporting the fight against the novel coronavirus.
Yours sincerely,
Prof Tan Eng Chye
President of National University of Singapore
