德国柏林交响乐团（Berliner Sinfonia-Orchester）成立于1952年，由原德意志民主共和国（东德）政府成立，成立时的名字是“柏林交响乐团”，一般也叫做“东柏林交响乐团”。柏林交响乐团是德国西北部丰富的音乐舞台中一支重要的艺术团体，是柏林市的主要交响乐团之一，在过去的六十年间一直在充当着这个地区的代表性的交响乐团的领头作用。
库尔特·桑德林爵士（Kurt Sanderling，1912-2011），德国著名指挥家。其指挥风格融合了德国风格的严谨与俄罗斯风格的浪漫。桑德林一般被认为是前东德地区最伟大的指挥家之一，也是西方指挥大师中罕见的能容德国与俄罗斯音乐风格于一身的指挥大师。他的犹太身份既带给了他极其敏感和细腻的指挥天赋，也给他带来了背井离乡的苦楚。他常年深耕于东德地区，为乐迷留下了大量独具特色的唱片作品，却也未获得与之相符的名气与声望。直到20世纪80年代大师游历英美指挥，全世界的乐迷才开始认识这一位和蔼低调的德国老人。
