Taro snail is a kind of carnivorous tropical marine mollusc, with more than 500 species in the world. Taro snails can secrete a special kind of polypeptide venom through the venom tube for predation and defense. The venom is mainly composed of some small peptides, collectively referred to as conotoxin or conopeptide. These small peptide toxins are generally composed of 10-46 amino acids, rich in disulfide bonds and have special structures, which can specifically act on receptors or ion channels.
Swiss scientists screened conotoxin from the conotoxin family in 2012. It is a biomimetic peptide of conotoxin, which is safe, effective, non-toxic and non irritating. Conocortin acts on voltage-gated sodium channels (especially for muscle channel nav1.4). Arginine residues in conocortin str
