一、 设计主题
Book5 Unit 5 (Reading) First aid for
burns
二、 整体设计思路
本单元话题为First aid,
而本节主题是其Reading 部分First
aid for burns.
该阅读文章带有副标题,结构非常清晰,所以重点在于引导学生根据副标题,准确快速寻找所需细节信息来解决实际问题的能力,例如区分不同程度烫伤烧伤,并找到正确的急救措施等。因此,我直接用我校王震等10名学生乐于救人的事件导入新课,再展示出小女孩被热水烫伤的图片,以及另一女孩吃火锅时被烧伤的视频,并设问我们该为她们进行怎样的急救?旨在激发起学生学习课文,获取正确急救知识的欲望。接下来,分设不同的任务,让学生在完成任务过程中实现本节课的教学目标。任务一,Skimming.
引导学生注意副标题,把握文章主旨大意。任务二,Scanning
competition.
限时比赛按要求寻找细节信息,评出获胜个人并奖励。任务三,Group
work. 回到课堂最开始的设问Now that you have
already known knowledge of first aid for bur
ns, can you help the girls now?
然后,让学生判断这两名女孩的烫伤烧伤种类,并根据自己的优势和特长(也可以挑战自己的弱项)选择要加入的小组,
用不同方式表达出正确的急救措施:1. Writing group (write
down Verbs that we should do in a right order)
2. Speaking group (tell us what we shouldn’t
do) 3. Acting group (act out three types
of burns’ treatment)
并派代表展示,最后评选出优胜组,并奖励。任务四,Summary.
用语法填空的方式进行课文复述总结(如果时间紧张,也可利用副标题进行总结)。最后布置课后作业,巩固所学知识并进行拓展学习。In
our daily life, accidents may happen at any time and any place, so
it is vital for everyone to have some knowledge of first aid.
Equipped with knowledge of first aid, we can not only help
ourselves, but also can help those in need
timely.所以,本节课就围绕这一重点递进式让学生实现知识、能力及情感目标的提升----学会该话题的英文基础知识,认识subtitle并提高细节阅读能力的同时,增进其彼此合作的意识和乐于帮助他人的意识。
三、教材分析
本单元话题为First aid,
而本节主题是其Reading 部分First
aid for burns.首先,Warming
up部分让学生了解了什么是急救,不同情况应该采取不同的急救方法。其次,pre-reading
部分话题引向烫伤烧伤的急救,为阅读First aid for
burns做准备,本节课的主要内容-----阅读,it
plays an important role in the unit, the main aim of it is to
improve students reading ability, help students get more
information, consolidate the basic knowledge, get to know the
grammar of this
unit(ellipsis),
as well as improve their integrating skills. The reading passage
includes subtitles ----- Causes of burns, Types of
burns, Characteristics of burns, & First
aid treatment, so its structure is very
clear. However, the part of first aid
treatment contains treatment for 3 types of burns, so
it is a little difficult to master. In addition, there are also
some sentences with “Ellipsis”, which are not easy for students to
learn either.

四、学情分析
As Senior 2 Students, they are at
different levels of English study. Some may find English is
difficult to learn, and even lose their interest in learning
English. But most of them are active in mind. They are eager to
take part in the study activities to learn more and show their
strengths. Well, they are all kind and warm-hearted, so they are
willing to cooperate and help others. As for first aid, they may
know some common knowledge, but maybe not exactly, so it is
necessary to make it clear.

To master the important words and sentences patterns of this
unit through this period: first aid, temporary, skin,
poison, a variety of, liquid, mildly, swollen, scissors, bandage,
squeeze, over and over again, symptom, It is vital to do sth…,
etc.
2. Ability goals
l Improve Ss’ reading
skills, such as getting the main idea of each part by paying
attention to the subtitles and scanning for the detailed
information.
l Enable Ss to have the
ability to use what they’ve learnt to do first aid treatment for
burns correctly.
3. Moral goals
l Increase the Ss’
awareness of the importance of knowing about first aid and doing
first aid correctly.
l Encourage Ss to help
others with what they learned.
l Improve students’
awareness of cooperation and competition.

Step1. Lead-in
To attract students’ interest first, I will lead
in the lesson with an old saying “Accidents will
happen.(天有不测风云,人有旦夕祸福
)”and a real accident in which
students from our school gave first aid to the victim and saved his
life.(我校王震等10名学生乐于救人的事件,事件发生在几年前,幸亏有互联网,我才找到了相关的图片,才得以展示给学生),then
I will ask students to find the definition of first aid in
warming up. In the meanwhile, ask students a
question: “when an accident happens, do you know how to show first
aid to those who are in need?”
Then show Ss a picture of the pre-reading (a girl gets burned
by hot water) and a video (a girl gets burned more seriously by
fire when she eats hot pot with her boyfriend.)

Step2. Skimming (Task I)
Let Ss skim through the passage and find 4 subtitles, then
divide the passage into 5 parts and put the main ideas in the right
order.
Here are the main ideas of each part; can you number them
from 1 to 5?

Step3. Scanning
The passage is organized with subtitles, and in this way, we
can find the information we need quickly and exactly.
1. Help students to scan the related part to find the
answers to the following questions.
Q1: What is skin?
Q2: How many layers of skin do we have?

competition(Task
II)
Now that you are able
to scan the related information,
let’s do a scanning
competition, and the winner will get a
prize.(利用电脑制作了一个五分钟,300秒的一个倒数计时器插入课件右上角,让学生感受到竞赛的氛围)

Q3. If someone gets burned, his hands get
charred(烧焦的,烧黑的) and
tissue(组织) under them can be seen, it

Step4. Group work (Task III)
In this part, I will remind Ss of the two girls in the
beginning again.
Ask them to read the part of first aid treatment while
listening to the tape, underline
the information that we should do, and
circle the information we shouldn’t do.
Then discuss how to do first aid to the girls
correctly according to their types of burns. They can choose one
group from 3 according to their own strengths (or challenge their
weakness), and then help the girls in different
forms
1. Writing group (write down Verbs that
we should do in a right order)
2. Speaking group (tell us what we shouldn’t
do)
3. Acting group (act out three types of burns’
treatment)
最后评选出优胜组,并奖励。

Step5. Summary (Task IV)
根据时间,设置两种总结,时间充足,就利用课文语法填空总结全文;如果时间紧张,就利用标题和副标题概括总结。
2 possible versions:
1. If time permits, summarize what we learned with a
passage.
2. If time is limited,
summarize what we learned with title and subtitles.
The skin is ____ essential part of your body and its largest
organ, __________ can protect against disease, poisons and so on.
It has complex functions. When your skin gets burned, it can be
very serious, so it is very important to know ________ (one) aid
for burns.
A ________ (various) of things
can burn your skin, and there are three ________ (type) of burns.
If you’ve got burns, first, remove clothing using scissors if
necessary. For first degree burns, place cool, clean, wet cloths on
them. For second degree burns, keep cloths cool by putting them
back in a basin of cold water, _________ (squeeze) them out and
placing them on the burned area over and over ________ for about an
hour. Next, dry the burned area_______ (gentle), then cover it with
a dry, clean bandage without sticking to the skin, and hold the
bandage ______ place with tape. If you’ve got second or third
degree burns, it is vital ________ (go) to hospital at
once.

Step6. Homework
Well, today we mainly study first aid for burns with 4
subtitles-- The causes of burns, Types of burns,
Characteristics of burns, First aid treatment. You did a
good job in this period; I believe you already know how to give
first aid for burns correctly, but there are other situations where
we don’t know how to give first aid, so your homework
today:
1. Get more about first aid from the Internet.
2. Read the passages with subtitles in your
handouts.
3. Finish the exercise4 on page
35.
