Fair flower, that dost so comely grow,
Hid in this silent, dull retreat,
Untouched thy honied blossoms blow,
Unseen thy little branches greet;
...No roving foot shall crush thee here,
...No busy hand provoke a tear.
By Nature's self in white arrayed,
She bade thee shun the vulgar eye,
And planted here the gaurdian shade,
And sent soft waters murmuring by;
...Thus quietly thy summer goes,
...Thy days declinging to repose.
Smit with those charms, that must decay,
I grieve to see your future doom;
They died--nor were those flowers
more gay,
The flowers that did in Eden bloom;
...Unpitying frosts, and Autumn's power
...Shall leave no vestige of this flower.
From morning suns and evenign dews
At first thy little being came:
If nothing once, you nothing lose,
For when you die you are the same;
...The space between, is but an hour,

美丽的花儿 如此清秀的绽放
隐藏在这安宁幽静的所在
未经染指的花蕊盛开芬芳
未被注目的细枝问询摇摆
不会有那旅人践踏的脚步
不会有那好事者的采摘
白色的花儿开得自在
将那凡尘俗眼躲避开来
四周有香林掩盖
一条弱水带着细语相伴
这夏日便如此消逝远去
你的花期也渐近凋敝
暗香也终将销残
念及你之终期 我便哀恸不已
它们谢去—也不减分毫妍丽
曾在天堂绽放的花朵
严霜与那秋日的肃杀
不会让花儿留下丝毫痕迹
那娇蕊自朝霞与暮露里
来到这尘世
来时一无所有 去时了无牵挂
尘归尘 土归土
这相隔的时间 不过一晌

简介：
菲利普·弗伦诺
Philip
Freneau（1752-1832）美国殖民时期著名诗人，美国革命战争后期最杰出的作家。生于纽约一酒商家庭。1768年进入普林斯顿大学，次年发起建立北美第一个革命学生组织。他写于内战时期的诗集《内战时期及其他》(1864)，歌颂内战时期反蓄奴制斗争中的英雄主义精神，欢庆黑奴解放，以鼓励士气。1781年发表《英国囚船》一诗，揭露英军虐待战俘的暴行。1786年出版《弗瑞诺诗集》，被誉为“美国独立革命的诗人”。战后，他支持杰弗逊，为美国政府做出巨大贡献
但50岁后，他在贫穷中度过余生。
