周末读英文诗歌，是一个音乐学女博士来访时候送的。 作者是戴维·怀特(David
Whyte)，英国诗人、哲学家，他获得海洋动物学学位，并善于通过生命的无形要素与我们日常可见工作之间的对话，来表达自己的思想。
他认为，人生不能简单解释，美好的事物由光明和黑暗创造，其本质上既孤独又是共有的。
本集子(Essentials)由其夫人选编，收入了作者35年间创作的诗文，每篇诗文后都有背景介绍，还有插图。
扉页后的一页上就是但丁《神曲》的开篇段落：
'Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita
Mi ritrovai per una selva oscura,
Che la diritta via era smarrita'

我在一座昏暗的森林之中醒悟过来，
