The law of life

昨夜,读JACK LONDON短文《The law of
life》。
The picture was so strong it
had stayed with him all his life. His
dull, blind eyes saw the end again as they had in the far off
past.
For long, his mind saw his past. The fire began to die out, and the
cold entered his body. He
placed two more sticks on it, just two more left. This would be how
long he would live.
Koskoosh
Why should he fight?
Why cling to life? He dropped his head to his knees. What did it matter after
all? Isn't
this the law of life?
这就是the law of
life.
I strove with none
for none was worth my strife;
Nature I loved, and next to Nature, Art;
I warm’d both hands before the fire of
Life;
It sinks
I am ready to depart.
