debate over home schooling against public schooling.
What then is the future of education? Will this new model of
schooling replace normal schools? Will computers and the Internet
__27__ our classrooms and teachers? As the debate continues, so do
the questions about what home schoolers are studying at home. How
can parents ensure that their children are prepared __28__ for
college? How are home schoolers assessed to make sure they are
getting the
same educational standards that school students
must have?
Finally, there are questions regarding the children's emotional
development. Are they too __29__ their fellow students? Are they
__30__ the opportunity to get the social benefits of being in a
large classroom of students? As with any debatable issue, the
answers to these questions are neither simple nor one-sided.

阅读下面短文,从每题所给的四个选项中选出最佳答案。
A
People often say, “The hand that rocks the cradle(摇篮)rules the
world.” and “Behind every successful man there is a woman.” Both
these sayings mean the same thing. Men rule the world, but their
wives rule them.
Most American women like making their husbands and sons successful,
but some of them want more for themselves. They want good jobs, and
when they work they want to be paid. They also want to be as
successful as men.
The American women’s liberation movement was started by women who
didn’t want to stand behind successful men. They wanted to stand
beside men and have the same chances for success. They didn’t want
to be told that certain jobs or offices were closed to them. They
refused to work side by side with men who did the same work for a
higher pay.
A liberated woman must be proud of being a woman and have
confidence in herself. If somebody says to her, “You have come a
long way, baby.” She will smile and answer, “Not nearly as far as
I’m going to go, baby.” This movement is quite new, and many
American women don’t agree with it. But it has already made some
important changes in women’s lives and in men’s lives, too.
41. From the first paragraph, we can learn that ________.
A. American women usually take care of their children by
themselves
B. women in the United States are powerful
C. women play a very important role in men’s lives
D. if there is no woman, there is no man
42. By saying “Not nearly as far as I’m going to go”, a liberated
woman is stating that _______.
A. she has nearly got to her destination
B. there is a little more than what she wants
C. she will never get to her ideal destination
D. it is not far enough and she will go a lot further
43. In this passage, the author suggests that in the United States
_______.
A. most women can’t get a good job
B. many women still don’t want to go out of their home to
work
C. all families are still supported by men
D. all liberated women have achieved a lot

The first reality TV show in the world was called Expedition
Robinson and it was shown in Sweden in 1997. Half the population of
the country watched the final event and a new kind of TV program
was born. Two years later in Holland , the first series of Big
Brother was filmed. Again, it was a great success and the final
program was watched by 15 million people. Now more than 20
countries around the world have Big Brother or Expedition Robinson
on their TV screens. The ordinary people who take part in the
programs are known by millions of people in their own countries and
reality TV has become big, big business.
For the TV producers, reality TV is a dream which
comes true because many of the programs cost nothing to make. At
some point, the television viewers are asked to telephone the
program to vote or to apply to take part in the show. It is the
cost of these telephone calls that pays for the shows. One of the
most popular shows is Pop Idol. In the show a group of attractive
young people are made into pop stars. TV viewers vote for their
favorite person on the show. The winner makes a record and millions
of copies of the record are sold. His or her pictures are published
on the covers of magazines or on the front pages of newspapers, and
then, they are quickly forgotten.
But not everyone is happy about reality TV. In
Portugal, two TV channels got into trouble because they showed too
much of the personal lives of the people in the shows. In France,
reality TV is called “rubbish TV” and the TV studios of Big Brother
were attacked three times in one week. In Greece, Big Brother was
described as “ against human rights and civilization”.
44. Those who take part in the reality TV shows are usually
_____.
A. common people
B. pop TV
stars
C. attractive people
D. famous film stars
45. Who would pay for the cost of the reality TV shows according to
the passage?
A. TV producers who make reality TV shows
B. TV actors who take part in reality TV shows.
C. TV viewers who telephone reality TV shows
D. TV companies which broadcast reality TV shows
46. It can be concluded from the passage that ______.
A. everyone is happy about reality TV.
B. reality TV will do well in many countries.
C. all the people in Europe are in favor of reality TV
D. reality TV will not be broadcast in any countries.

Frank Lloyd Wright probably is the greatest architect(建筑师)that the
United States has ever produced. He was very talented and had a
natural ability to design buildings. His buildings were not only
beautiful, but they were also functional(实用的). They fit their
purposes very well. Wright's churches, for example, make people
feel like thinking and praying. His office buildings make people
enjoy working, and his houses make people feel comfortable at home.
However, Frank Lloyd Wright's beautiful, functional buildings are
not the only reason that he is famous. There is another
reason.
Frank Lloyd Wright is called the greatest American architect
because he started an American style in architecture. More of the
architecture in the United States before Wright was really
European, not American. Wright's buildings do not look like those
in old European States and in other parts of the world.
The most important idea in Frank Lloyd Wright's style of
architecture is that a building must fit its purpose and the land
around it. His houses are often called 'grass-land houses' because
their lines are similar to the lines on the grass-land. Both the
lines of the grass-land and the lines of Wright's houses are
parallel(平行的)to the horizon, the place where the earth and sky seem
to meet.
47. The best title for this passage would be ______.
A. The Influence (影响) of European Architecture on American
Architecture
B. The Buildings Designed by the Greatest Architect Frank Lloyd
Wright
C. The Influence of Architect Frank Lloyd Wright on American
Architecture
D. Frank Lloyd Wright's contribution (贡献)to the United States of
America

_______.
A. they were plain outside and well designed inside
B. they were beautiful in design and practical in use
C. they were spacious and very functional
D. they could be used as a church or an office building
49. It can be concluded that before Wright's time _______.
A. American architecture hadn't formed its own style yet
B. American architecture was mixed with modern style
C. Most American houses were designed by Europeans
D. Most houses were practical but no-good looking
50. The style of Wright's 'grass-land houses' is that
_______.
A. the houses appear to stand on the horizon
B. the houses have many lines that are similar to the horizon
C. the houses are built mainly on the grass-land
D. the lines of the houses are similar to those on the
grass-land

A research team from Finland, the United States, China and Scotland
is hopeful about the future of forests. Six experts in forestry
science and economics say forest growth is on the increase in some
countries and the number is rising. Professor Kauppi says the
findings suggest the world may be able to reach a turning point
away from deforestation (毁林). Many experts have considered that
impossible. But the researchers say it may be possible to expand
the world’s forests by ten percent, or an area about the size of
India, by 2050.
They used information released last year by the Food and
Agriculture Organization. The new study looked at the fifty nations
with the most forests. The researchers used a new way to measure
forest resources. They considered more than just the amount of land
covered by trees. They also considered forest density, tree sizes,
biomass (生物量) and the amount of atmospheric carbon captured in
forests. The biomass represents all plants and tree growth.
The researchers say growing stock increased in twenty-two of the
fifty countries. And, in about half of the fifty countries, biomass
and carbon storage also increased. The researchers say forest areas
and biomass are still being lost in such important countries as
Brazil and Indonesia. But they found gains in others, including the
world’s most populous nations. They say China and the United States
have had the greatest gains. And they say India has reached the
right balance between forested and non-forested land.
In percentage terms, though, the study says that forest areas have
expanded fastest in the last fifteen years in Vietnam, Spain and
China. And they have shrunk fastest in Nigeria and the Philippines.
Professor Kauppi says the main obstacle to forest growth is
fast-growing poor populations that burn wood for cooking fuel, or
sell it for quick money or clear forest for crops. But a number of
scientists criticized the use of information that came from
governments. They said some governments didn’t keep good records
about their forests, and might not tell the truth.
51. Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the
passage?
A. The research team is made up of experts from
four countries.
B. By 2050, India’s forest will have expanded by
10%.
C. Professor Kauppi says it is possible to stop
deforestation on the Earth.
D. The Food and Agriculture Organization has provided some useful
information for the research.
52. Which of the following statements did the researchers consider
when measuring forest resources?
A. The amount of land covered by trees.
B. Forest density, tree sizes and biomass.
C. The amount of atmospheric carbon captured in
forests.
D. All of the above.
53. From the third paragraph, we learn that ________.
A. in about 50% of the fifty countries, biomass and
carbon storage increased
B. forest areas and biomass are still being lost in
China
C. Brazil is one of the world’s most populous
nations
D. Indonesia has reached the right balance between forested and
non-forested land
54. What delays forest growth?
A. Some people in developing countries burn or sell
wood from forests.
B. There are too many people in the world.
C. Forests are being lost in 22 countries.
D. Some governments don’t tell the truth.
55. What is the tone of this passage?
A. Critical.
B.
Sorry.
C. Indifferent.
D.
Hopeful.

任务型写作(One possible version)
Dear Principal,
I am writing this letter to support
my good friend Li Hua's application to study at your university. In
my classmates' eyes, he has always been an intelligent and
hard-working student, who is helpful and co-operative with others.
For these reasons,
he is very
popular with everyone. (29字)
I agree with my classmates and I
have personally benefited greatly from his help. I still remember
at the beginning of this school year I was in a traffic accident
and that required me to be in hospital for over two months.
This situation caused me great concern as I feared I would fall far
behind my classmates in this very important year of study. But
thanks to Li Hua by the time I was well enough to leave hospital
and return to work I was up-to-date in all areas of my study. Not
only did he come to visit me every day,
bringing with him
all the lessons and materials our class had gone through each day,
but he patiently sat with me and explained to me all those
issues that I didn't understand. Only after staying with me for at
least 2 hours every day would he go home and begin his own studies.
(156字)
For the reasons above, I urge you
to consider his application favourably.
Yours truly,
Li Ping
