★authority[ɔ:'θɒrəti]n.当局；权力；权威人士。现将其用法重点介绍如下：
1、作“当局”讲时，恒用复数形式authorities，且其前需要加定冠词the。
如：the authorities当局
the school authorities学校当局
the authorities concerned有关当局
2、当“权力”讲时，为不可数名词。
3、当“权威人士”讲时，为可数名词。
★实战演练：
The authorities
are now considering shooting them to control the island's koala population explosion.
当局现正考虑射杀牠们以便控制岛上考拉数目的爆增。
The school authoritiesshould consider revising the school curricula.
学校当局应该考虑修订课程。
Several countries claim authority over the islands.
好几个国家声称拥有这些岛屿的主权。
Professor Peter is an authority in English.
彼得教授是英语权威。
