郎费罗的《 A  Psalm  of  Life  》及两种译稿

亨利·瓦茨沃斯·郎费罗（1807——1882），美国诗人，1836-1854年间任哈佛大学现代语言学教授，主要作品有抒情诗集《夜籁》、《伊凡杰兰》、《海华沙之歌》等。这篇《A Psalm of Life》1838年匿名发表于尼克波克杂志，引起轰动，被誉为“美国良心的悸动”，现将原文及两种译稿一并介绍如下：

A Psalm of Life 生之赞歌 生命颂

Tell me not in mournful numbers, 莫唱伤悲调： 别用忧伤的韵调对我哀叹：
Life is but an empty dream! 梦幻是人生！ 人生只不过是一场空虚的梦！
For the soul is dead that slumbers, 须知灵魂睡 ， 灵魂睡去就如同死去一般，
And things are not what they seem. 所见本非真。 肉体也不再是原来的姿容。

Life is real! Life is earnest! 生命真而诚！ 人生是实在的，人生不是虚无；
And the grave is not its goal; 坟墓非止境； 坟墓并非就是它的终极地。
Dust thou art , to dust returmest, 生死皆诟尘， 你本是尘土，复归于尘土——
Was not spoken of the soul. 岂是指灵魂。 那不是说灵魂，指的是肉体。

Not enjoyment , and not sorrow 逸乐与忧伤， 别只顾贪欢，别一味哀怨，
is our destined or way; 均非天行健； 人生的道路该另有目标——
But to act, that each to-morrow 君子当自强， 去实干吧，让每一个明天，
Finds us farther than to-day. 翌日胜今天。 看我们都比今天站得更高。

Art is long , and Time is fleeting, 光阴似白驹， 艺业需恒久，而光阴只一晃。
And our hearts, though stout and brave, 学艺垂千秋； 我们的心尽管勇敢坚毅，
Still, like muffled drums, are beating 雄心如闷鼓， 却仍旧像那丧鼓在闷响，
Funeral marches to the grave. 葬曲伴荒丘。 一声声送我们走向墓地。

In the world's broad of battle, 世界一战场， 世界就是辽阔的大战场，
In the bivouac of Life, 人生一军营； 人生要随时准备去战斗！
Be not like dumb , driven cattle! 莫效牛马样， 做一个英雄英勇顽强！
Be a hero in the strife! 奋发斯英雄！ 不要像任人驱使的哑牲口！

Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant! 莫信未来好， 别指望未来，不管它多欢乐；
Let the dead past bury its dead! 过去任埋葬。 让已逝的岁月滚蛋！
Act-act in the living pleasent! 努力有生时， 上帝在上，丹心在胸窝，
Heart within,and God o'erhead! 心诚祈上苍！ 干吧，抓住活泼泼的现在干！

Lives of great men all remind us 伟人询不朽， 伟人的一生都是好榜样——
We can make our lives sublime, 我亦能自强， 我们能使人生崇高而伟大；
And , departing, leave behind us 鸿爪留身后， 即使死去，在时间的沙滩上，
Footprints on the sands of time; 遗泽印时光。 也会有我们的脚印留下。

Footprints that perhaps another, 或有飘零人， 也许，在人生严峻的大海上，
sailing o'er life's solemn main, 苦海中浮沉， 有某个兄弟正扬帆远去；
A forlor n and shpwrecked brother, 睹我足印时， 突然遭了海难，已经绝望，
Seeing, shall take heart again.
