你或许知道th组合有2个发音，可是碰到一个你从未见过含有这个组合的单词，你是否就很疑惑不知要发哪个音了呢? 正好前几天有家长问到这个，所以拎出来和大家分享一下。
维基百科给了一个很好的答案：
In initial position we use /θ/ except in certain function words; in medial position we use /e/ except for certain foreign loan words; and in final position we use /θ/ except in certain verbs.
1. th在词首发 /θ/，除了在function words中。所谓 function words， 一般是指 articles, pronouns, and demonstratives冠词，代语及指示代词，比如 the, this/that, these/those, then, there (and therefore), they/them/their and the older thou/thee/thy/thine, thence, thenceforth.

2. th在单词中间一般发/e/，除了一些特定的外来词。


3. th在单词结尾一般发音/θ/，当然也有例外，比如with.


对于第三点，如果后面加e，或是 ing，th会变音，
breath / breathe - the addition of an E to the spelling changes the sound, as in the example above:
breath /θ/
breathe /e/
同理，mouth/mouthe.


其实不管怎么说，平时多听多查字典才是正解。
