《To kill a mockingbird》读后感

This novel impresses on me profoundly.Prejudice and injustice on the Negro are deeply rooted in people's heart in the small southern town.However,justice and kindness still exist.
The story mainly tells about a lawyer,Atticus Finch, who was an upright,principal,calm and decent man in a small town.He often went to court for the poor without receiving any remuneration.After the death of his wife,he lived alone with his son James and daughter Jane.In the racially divided town,Robinson,who was Negro,was wrongly accused of raping a white woman.Finch agreed to defend the young black man.Many of the townspeople tried to get Finch to pull out of the trial,nearly nobody in the town seemed determined to believe in the guiltlessness of an accused negro,but Finch decided to go ahead.After carefull investigation,he found that that negro was not guilty.Thus,in court,he did his best to

seek truth from facts to defend him.He refuted the allegations one by one and appealed to people to respect truth.Inspite of the strong evidence he offered,Robinson was finally charged as guilty.Robinson felt isolated and hopeless,then he tried to escape,but unfortunately he was killed.
The story was told from the children's perspective.Finch's son and daughter saw his experience of defendense and also experienced the good and evil in the town.Through the kids,we can find that racism is a learned attitude or feeling.
Though Finch's effort ultimately turned out changeless of the racial tension in the town,his noble spirit had set an good example for people of conscience.
Besides,another thing I want to mention is the title“to kill a mockingbird”.Literally,the novel seems to have nothing to do with the mockingbird,but acturally,it has a great symbolic meaning.It presents the innocent.We can say the black man,Finch,James and Jane were all mockingbirds.Furthermore,it is a symbol of the noble kind of human quality.
Finch once told his children that never to kill a mockingbird,because this bird never do something evil,it just sing for human beings,it's a sin to it.Likewise,to kill a an innocent black man is also a sin,he just lived quietly,not making any troubles .As people of conscience,we should guard human dignity and equality.
