Yuwu who hails from Guangzhou, China, was a Physical Education
major graduate. He was the champion as well as Mr Personality in
the China Round of Asian Star Search’99, Singapore’s regional
talent search contest.
Prior signing to MediaCorp Studios, he was a model and had played
the lead role in a Guangzhou TV serial.
A natural actor, Yuwu was cast alongside regional artistes in his
debut TV series,Master Swordsman Lu Xiao Feng, followed immediately
by Dare To Strike, another blockbuster co-production with veteran
Hong Kong actors. At that time, despite being new in the industry,
he quickly amassed a large following of fans and was voted one of
the most popular male artistes in a local Internet poll.
He went on to clinch several Top Ten Most Popular Male Artiste
awards over the years. With his clean-cut model looks, a strapping
frame and easy smile, Yuwu has all the trappings of an actor-idol.
His recent works on TV include the immensely popular The Champions,
A Police Story and The Peak, for which he was once again nominated
for the Best Actor award at the 2007 Star Awards in Singapore. Yuwu
even received the highest number of public votes to once again
clinched the Top Ten Most Popular Male Artiste awards.
In 2007, his highly regarded acting skills propelled him into the
next phase of his acting career - as a bonafide movie actor and
star. After a cameo in the Golden Horse-nominated film Protégé,
Yuwu starred in award-winning director Royston Tan’s film 881, and
also in the multiple award-winning Australian-Singapore
coproduction co-starring Hollywood actress Joan Chen - The Home
Song Stories,which was awarded Best Actress and Best Original
Screenplay at the Golden Horse
Awards in 2007.
Yuwu also received a Best ctor nomination alongside Eric Bana, at
the AustralianFilm Institute Awards for his portrayal of an
immigrant cook in 1960s Melbourne in The Home Song Stories. Popular
and well-liked by the audience and his fans, Yuwu has shared his
passion for Chinese contemporary art through interactive sessions
organized by the Singapore Art Museum. He now sits on the board as
a Patron of the Museum. A healthconscious Yuwu also maintains a fit
physique through running, basketball games and regular workouts at
Fitness First gyms where he is the Ambassador.
In 2008, Yuwu completed filming for Painted Skin the period martial
arts-fantasy China-epic directed by Gordon Chan (Flashpoint, Dragon
Tiger Gate) and co-starring Hollywood star Donnie Yen and top
Chinese actresses Zhou Xun and Zhao Wei. The film is due for
release throughout Asia in October 2008.
In the first quarter of 2008, Yuwu received rave reviews for his
acting in The Leap Years, the film depiction of author Catherine
Lim’s novella The Leap of Love where he plays a man secretly in
love with his best friend.
Yuwu is currently filming in Singapore director Royston Tan’s new
film 1028. He plays two separate male leads, that showcase Yuwu’s
versatility and acting.Despite his filming commitments, Yuwu found
time to grace the Asian Film Awards 2008 at the Hong Kong
Filmart.
戚玉武于1999年《才华横溢出新秀》（新加坡最具权威的区域性演艺新人选拔赛)之《广东之星》荣获男冠军，也是同场比赛“最有性格新秀”一奖的得主。踏入演艺圈以前，毕业自体育系的戚玉武是一名模特儿，曾获模特儿大赛冠军，也曾在一部广州的电视剧中担任主角。
天生就是演员材料的戚玉武，在新加坡参与的第一部电视剧《陆小凤》中，就与海外演员搭档演出。他表现稳健又具大将之风，毫不怯场。接着，他又在另一部大制作《扫冰者》中与资深海外演员对戏，表现毫不逊色。
2001年，他在重头剧《何日军再来》中担任主角，精湛的演技赢得多方喝采。同年观众也看到了戚玉武独特的喜剧细胞，他在深受欢迎的情境喜剧《我爱精灵》中令人惊艳的演出，进一步肯定了这位新进艺人的可塑性。在新传媒与台湾首次合作的偶像剧《任我遨游》中，担任主角的戚玉武，不但外型突出，性格也非常讨好，更凭这部戏而大大提升了其偶像人气，并囊括了同年红星大奖（新加坡一年一度的大型电视颁奖典礼）的十大最受欢迎男艺人之一。接下来每年的红星大奖，玉武都是竞争激烈新加坡红星大奖的10
大最受欢迎男艺人之一.在2007
年，玉武也凭《最高点》被提名选为最佳男演员。而在同一年，玉武又一次，凭获得最多投票，成为新加坡红星大奖的10
大最受欢迎男艺人之一。
自入行以来，戚玉武的才华和荧幕魅力却都让人刮目相看。在多项票选活动中，他都成为最受欢迎的男艺人之一，人气指数极高，是新一代的少女杀手。
向电影业发展是玉武一直以来的梦想。继第一部电影《誓约》后，玉武客串演出导演尔冬升的《门徒》。2007年，主演了新加坡的票房猛片《881》和与陈冲有多场对手戏的澳洲得奖佳作《意》，也因此获得澳洲电影协会的提名，与好莱坞影星Eric
