 我记得许久以前曾经查过一些资料，也请教过几位外籍人士，答案是可以用“What date is it today?”来询问今天的日期。顺便把查到的相关资料收集在这里，供参考。

今天是星期几？
What day is it today?
What day of the week is it?
回答可以是：
Today is Thursday.
It is Thursday today.

今天是几月几号？
What date is it today?
What's the date today?
What's today's date?
What's today?
What day of the month is (it) today?
回答可以是：
Today is 15 April.
It's 15 April.
Today's date is 15 April.
日期读作：the fifteenth of April或者April the fifteenth.

你生日是何时？
What's the date of your birth?
What date is your birthday?
When is your birthday?
回答可以是：
It is on 15 April.
My birthday is on 15 April.

下面这几句话的意思你试试译译看。
1. The coin bears the date 1901.
2. At that date there were no airplanes.
3. I have a date tonight.
4. Do you like eating dates?
5. The doctor said her days were numbered.
6. His employment contract not renewed, his days at the company are numbered.

第1和第2句都是同样的意思，“时代，年代”。1译为“硬币上的年份是1901年。2译为“那时还没有飞机。”
3. 我今晚有个约会。
4. 你喜欢吃枣吗？
5. 医生说她在世的日子不多了。
6. 他不获续约，在公司的日子不多了。
在《疯狂英语》中有一篇对话的课文是这样的：
Ａ：Oh, my God!
Ｂ：Are you crazy? It's 4 o'clock in the morning.
Ａ：What date is it today?
Ｂ：Today's Monday.
Ａ：No, what date is it today?
Ｂ：It's August 1st.
Ａ：Got you.
甲：噢，我的天啊！
乙：你疯了吗？现在是凌晨4点钟。
甲：今天是什么日子？
乙：今天是星期一。
甲：不，今天是几多号？
乙：8月1日
甲：答对了。
