Minnesota's Theater Scene
01 July 2012 From dinner theater and dance troupes to
symphonies and ballets, Minnesota’s arts scene has plenty to
explore.
Minneapolis, Minnesota, boasts more theaters per capita than any
city in the United States after New York. The U.S.’s oldest running
theater, Old Log Theater, and largest dinner theater, Chanhassen
Dinner Theater, are both located in Minneapolis.
New additions to Minneapolis’ theater scene include the Cowles
Center for Dance and the Performing Arts, a stage dedicated to
movement; the Brave New Workshop, an improvisational comedy club;
and New Century Theatre, a flexible-use space for a variety of
performances.
The Guthrie Theater, shown above, moved in 2006 to a new location
that offers three distinct stages for more classical theater.
Together, these Minneapolis theaters attract more than 500,000
visitors a year.
In St. Paul, the Minnesota Opera and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra
continue to build on Minnesota’s rich arts culture and heritage
while the Children’s Theater Company earns international attention.
