西雅图的太空针塔(Space
Needle)为1962年举办的万国博览会所建，是想象力和创新的象征。在那次万国博览会期间，有200多万人游览了这个太空针塔。今天，这个颇具未来风的针塔每年吸引着100多万名游客前来观看。
太空针塔高184米，游人在塔顶可将华盛顿州（Washington
State）的风光尽收眼底。游客登上160米的观望台即可饱览西雅图的都市轮廓、普捷湾（Puget Sound）、雷尼尔山（Mount
Rainer）、喀斯喀特山脉（Cascade Range）和奥林匹克山（Olympic
Mountains）的景色。观望台下面有久负盛名的空中城餐馆（SkyCity）。该餐馆可以旋转360度，让所有用餐饮者观赏盛景。
人们在地面上也可以观赏太空针塔的英姿。奇胡利玻璃艺术园（Chihuly Garden and
Glass）就坐落在太空针塔的底部，它完整地收藏了艺术家戴尔•奇胡利（Dale

Sparking Imagination: Seattle’s Space Needle
12 July 2012 Seattle’s Space Needle was a symbol of
imagination, innovation and forward thinking when it was built in
1962.
Built for the 1962 World’s Fair, Seattle’s Space Needle served as a
symbol of imagination and innovation. During the fair, more than 2
million people visited the Space Needle. Today, the futuristic
tower attracts more than a million visitors a year.
Standing 184 meters tall, the Space Needle offers unparalleled
views of Washington state. The Seattle skyline, Puget Sound, Mount
Rainier, the Cascade Range and the Olympic Mountains are all
visible from the observation deck at 160 meters. Just below sits
SkyCity, an acclaimed restaurant that rotates 360 degrees to
provide spectacular views to all diners.
The Space Needle offers beautiful views on the ground, too.
Chihuly Garden and Glass, a comprehensive collection of
glass sculptures by artist Dale Chihuly, is located at the base of
the Space Needle. This comprehensive exhibition includes eight
galleries of Chihuly’s most significant work, a glass house filled
with a 30-meter-long glass installation, and a sculpture garden —
all featuring the bold colors and whimsical shapes for which
Chihuly is known.
