(U.S. Agency for International
(U.S.-China Global Development
Dialogue)。
(U.S. Agency for International
(U.S.-China Global Development
Dialogue)。
(Bureau for Policy, Planning and
(East

Engaging China on Global Development
27 May 2014 Officials from China and the United States
discuss how best to partner on meeting the world's development
challenges at the first U.S.-China Global Development Dialogue in
Beijing.
Recognizing the importance of frank, face-to-face dialogue to
discuss emerging challenges in international development, the U.S.
Agency for International Development (USAID) recently hosted the
inaugural U.S.-China Global Development Dialogue in Beijing.
China is an important partner with developed and developing
economies in negotiations around the post-2015 development agenda,
climate change, financing for development and other global issues,
Alex Thier of USAID’s Bureau for Policy, Planning and Learning said
in a May 23 blog entry on the USAID website.
USAID recently initiated small-scale, practical cooperation with
China in other nations. A U.S.-Chinese agriculture partnership in
East Timor is intended to improve the production of
income-generating crops to enhance food security and nutrition. The
first harvest was in March, and now more than 52 participating East
Timorese farmers like the one shown above are seeing the benefits
of modern farming techniques.
In the April 29 dialogue, Chinese officials expressed a strong
desire to work with the United States on global development issues,
according to Thier.
The dialogue was an important opportunity to advance mutual
interests in development policy and to strengthen cooperation in
partner countries, Thier said. The next set of global development
goals — including ending extreme poverty and sharing a sustainable
global commons and economy — will require a concerted effort with
all partners, especially China.
