《人生颂》
A Psalm of Life
美国十九世纪著名诗人朗费罗(Longfellow)的诗A Psalm of Life ，自从被编入我国小学六年级语文课本后，这位美国大诗人的名字，在中国差不多已妇孺皆知，不用再介绍了。课文题为生命的赞歌，是以语体诗形式出现的，译笔流畅，为该诗的众多译文中之最佳者，这是没有疑问的。但诗词翻译，难度极大。反复吟诵之余，还总觉得比原诗仍差好多。今天英语已很普及，而原文本身亦为英语现代诗，大多数人是能够看懂的。为了不让名诗因
翻译而打折扣，现将Longfellow的原诗录下，供诗词爱好者赏玩。

Tell me not in mourful numbers ,
莫唱哀歌：
life is but an empty dream !
人生如梦
For the soul is dead
thatslumbers
灵魂已死，
And things are not what they
seem. 时移景迁
Life is real ! LIfe is earnest
! 人本真实！
And the grave is not its goal;
冢中枯骨，并非归宿
Dust thou art ,to dust
returnest, “尘归与土，”
Was not spoken of the soul,
并非灵魂。
Not enjoyment ,and not sorrow ,
快乐悲伤，
Is our destined end or way ;
有违天道；
But to act ,that each to-morrow
追求明天
finds us farther than to-day.
超越当今。
Art is long,and Time is
fleeting , 时光飞逝，学海无崖
And our hearts ,though stout and brave
, 心虽无畏，
Still ,like muffled drums ,are beating
却如闷鼓，
Funeral marches to the grave. 。

语体译文
不要在哀伤的诗句里告诉我：
“人生不过是一场幻梦！”
灵魂睡着了，就等于死了，
事物的真相与外表不同。
人生是真切的！人生是实在的！
它的归宿决不是坟墓；
“你本是尘土，必归于尘土”，
这是指躯壳，不是指灵魂。
我们命定的目标和道路
不是享乐，也不是受苦；
而是行动，使每个明天
都超越今天，跨出新步。
智艺无穷，时光飞逝；
这颗心，纵然勇敢坚强，
也只如鼙鼓，闷声敲动着，
一下又一下，向坟地送丧。
世界是一片辽阔的战场，
人生是到处扎寨安营；
莫学那任人驱策的哑畜，
做一个威武善战的英雄！
别指望将来，不管它多可爱！
把已逝的过去永久掩埋！
行动吧－－趁着活生生的现在！
躯内有赤心，头上有真宰！
伟人的生平启示我们：
我们能够生活得高尚，
而当告别人世的时候，
留下脚印在时间的沙上；
也许我们有一个兄弟
航行在庄严的人生大海，
遇险沉了船，绝望的时刻，
会看到这脚印而振作起来。
那么，让我们起来干吧，
对任何命运都要敢于承担；
不断地进取，不断地追求，
要善于劳动，善于等待。
