■except sb. / sth.
同类中去除若干（排除在外）
■except(to)
do：除做某事外（except前有do的形式，后用do；反之，用to do）= but (to)
do
■except
that--从句（表陈述）：除开某件事情外
■except why/
what/when/where…..：除某事外
■except for
：对整体进行评价描述后再对细节（与整体性质不同）加以纠正，“只是……”
■besides
：除……外还有(包括在之内)
■as well as
：除…外；和，还，而且
■in addition
to：除……之外（还有）
■apart
from：①=besides除….外（尚有）②except
for除…外（别无）
【例句】
They all went to the cinema except Jack.
他们都去看电影了，除TOM没去。
The suit fitted him well except that the color
was a little brighter. 这西装很合他的身，只是颜色稍亮了些。
He could do nothing except(but) walk home.
他只有走路回去了。
He had no choice except to walk home.
除了走路回家，他别无选择。
His composition is good, except for(apart
from) some spelling
mistakes.他的作文，除了个别拼写错误外，还是很好的。
The room is empty except for(apart from) a
broken chair. 房间里空空的，只有一把烂椅子。
