It’s definitely a dream come true!
I have been
dreaming about watching it since March when I got the news that
Mamma Mia! is coming to Zhengzhou. My cousin, who has a rich
experience of watching all kinds of shows, told me
don’t
buy the ticket from the official
website, just ask for the
scalper.
I have been waiting and
waiting, finally, the day comes! I dressed in my favorite skirt,
took the subway to Zhengzhou Opera Theater
. It was my first time being here. It is grand, with a very special
outlook. I found
a scalper, and bought a ticket at a reasonable
price. I was eager to get into the theater. It is very beautiful
from inside also. I was walking around, and suddenly, the
music Dancing Queen
was playing on the
broadcast. My heart started beating, and my mood was raised by the
lively
music. I was
getting excited now.
The show starts with a girl
named Sophie singing a solo. Her voice
is rising and falling, from it, the story unveils.
Sophie lives in a small island in Greece with her Mom Donna, and
she always wants to know who her Dad is. After reading
Mom’s
dairy secretly, she found out her
three possible Dads. She invited them to her wedding,
without Mom’s knowledge of it. The three men
arrived on the island, which proceeds the story to a
climax. Donna’s
emotion is getting complicated, on one hand, she is excited to see
her old lovers, on the other hand, the unhappy memories came back
to her. She can’t take them all at once. Sophie
didn’t tell her fiance Sky about her three
possible Dads. Sky feels Sophie is not been honest with him,
which makes them to rethink their marriage. At the end, Sophie and
Sky go to travel, and Donna gets back together with
Sam.
The translation is well done,
for it suits the Chinese audiences very well. It
doesn’t translate word by word, but adjusts to the
context. This is best represented by the song
The
Winner Takes it All. The good translation brings the audiences to a
deeper understanding of two young people are in love, but cannot
get married. The pain, the regret, the love and the relief, all the
emotions are mixed together in a spontaneous way.
Dancing
Queen,
my all-time
favorite song. I never get tired of listening to it. It just
makes me want to dance. The classic disco is originated from a
Swedish band ABBA, and is very old-fashioned and catchy. The lyrics
easily connects the listener with the song. I think, there is a
“Dancing Queen”
in every
girl’s heart, that she always wants to be in the
center of attention, and keeps young forever. Indeed, everyone has
the most glorious time--youth! Young, wild, carefree, you can do
whatever you want, and not care about what others think.
That’s just what the musical tells us,
don’t
let the so-called
“social standards”
to judge you, you need to
find your own heart and dream, and stay true to
it!
