“Cover”的常见用法

上次给4级学生上课,讲到了cover的几个常见的但是大家又不怎么会用的用法。在这里发几个例句,供大家学习。

1.cover =If a sum of money covers something, it is enough to pay for it. 有足够的钱去应付某些开支

I washed dishes at a Chinese restaurant to cover living expenses.
我在一家中餐馆洗盘子以支付日常生活开销。
We need to increase our sales to cover the cost of materials.
我们需要增加销售额以支付原料采购成本。

2. cover=to be in charge of, to be responsible for, to take care of 负责某一特定区域或者承担某些职责。

As a regional sales market, I need to cover a large territory.
作为区域销售经理,我得负责一个大区的业务。

pan >3. cover= If you cover for someone who is ill or away, you do their work for them while they are not there. 同事生病或者度假的时候,你临时承担他的工作职责。这个用法对人事很有用。

I’ll cover for Connie while she is on her annual holiday.
Connie度年假的时候,我会临时接替她的工作。

4. cover=involve, deal with, 涉及,谈及,有关

My class covers a lot of subjects.
我的课涉及很多主题。
The meeting didn’t cover after-sales service.
该会议没谈及售后服务。
This presentation covers all aspects of the project.
我的简报谈到了该项目的方方面面。


5. cover= to protect someone against loss, damage, accident or having something stolen, by having insurance

However, it won’t cover loss of property due to theft.
不过它不保盗窃导致的财产损失。
My insurance doesn’t cover certain damages.
一些损失不在我的保险范围之内。
