Chinese grammar—Prepositions 从 and 离

（1）“从”表示动作的起点。例如：
从 denotes the beginning of a certain action. For example:
我从上海来，到沈阳去。
* 我离上海来，到沈阳去。
我们从九点开始。
* 我们离九点
开始。
（2）“离”表示距离的远近。例如：
离 denotes the distance. For example:
我们学校离你们公司不远。
* 我们学校从你们公司不远。
宿舍离教室很近。
* 宿舍从教室很近。
（3）“从”和“离”后边的宾语可以是表示时间的词语。
The objects of the preposition 从and 离 may be words denoting time.
“从”表示开始的时间；“离”表示距离某时间的多少。例如：
从denotes the start point of an event, while 离denotes the length of a period of time.
我们八点开始上课。
现在七点三刻，离八点还有一刻钟。
他们下午从三点到四点接受记者采访。
