Chinese grammar--The difference between 要么and 或者

（连词）表示选择关系，在两项或更多的选择项中选择一项。
expressing alternative relations, meaning to choose one from the two or more items.

一、“要么”、“或者”在句中都可以只用一次，也可以用两次货两次以上，用两次的话，构成“要么……要么”、“或者……或者”的格式，表示非此即彼的意思。例如：
“要么”or “或者” may be used once, twice or more times in a sentence. When they are used twice in a sentence, they may form t
he patterns “要么……要么” or “或者……或者”, meaning “either this or that”. For example:
你最好去跟他谈谈，要么我去也行。
今天周末，咱们去哪儿玩玩吧，或者去麦当劳吃点儿什么，你说呢？
要么他来，要么我来，你看怎么办好？

二、“要么”、“或者”在用法上有一定的差别。“要么”只能连接句子，不能连接词；“或者”既可以连接句子也可以连接词。例如：
There are some differences in their usage, “要么” can only be used to link sentences, not words. “或者” can link sentences as well as words. For example:
要么/或者克服困难搞下去，要么/或者现在就停下来，没有别的路可走了。
早饭前，我喜欢韩寒报纸或者杂志什么的。

三、“要么”、“或者”在色彩和语气上也稍有差别“要么”含一定的口语色彩，商量的意味也显得更重些，所以在表示商量的选择句中选用“要么”会显得更合适些。“或者”在这两方面没有明显的特点，甚至在有的商量意味很重的句子中，用“或者”会显得不合适。例如：
“要么”and “或者” are slightly different in coloring and tone. “要么” is used somewhat more orally, the meaning of consulting is stronger. So it’s more suitable to use “要么” in a sentence involving consultation. “或者” is not special in these two aspects, rather it is not appropriate to use “或者” in sentences strongly implying consultation. For example:
你不想去找他？要么我去？
小张病了，今天的郊游他可能去不了了，要么咱们改个日子？
