这首歌背后的故事查了很多中文网站居然没有相应的介绍。只能硬着头皮翻译成中文，当然错误难免，而且有些根本不知道约定俗成的译法是什么。

歌曲来源及背景：
对于该童谣有多种背景解释，首先鹅在西方文化中是和性有一定关联的，在《天鹅与丽达》中就是典型代表，以前大户人家（出身高贵 a high born）的小姐都有自己的闺阁（chamber）。鹅在在闺阁中晃荡（In my lady's
chamber')，难免有瓜田李下之嫌。大英百科中灰雁（greylag goose）因其高生育率而与性相关。

1784年伦敦出版《 Gammer Gurton's Garland or The Nursery
Parnassus》 中记载歌谣如下:
Goose-a goose-a gander,
Where shall I wander?
Up stairs and down stairs,
In my lady's chamber;
There you'll find a cup of sack
And a race of ginger.
有些版本新增了几句：
The stairs went crack,
He nearly broke his back.
And all the little ducks went,
