1. interrupt----interruption
interrupt sb 打断某人的话 It's rude to interrupt people when they are talking.
interrupt one's study 中断学业
2. assume----assumption:
assume...(to be)... 认为...是 ...assume David to be a Belgian.
assume that... 假定...,认为... It is generally assumed that stress is caused by too
much work.
make an assumption 假想/设

ssume 假设，设想，认为 (指基本没什么根据的推测）
guess 猜想，猜测 (指主观猜度或碰运气地猜测）
imagine 想象 （脑海中构成的明确的、清晰的画面）
3. preserve
preserve the children's self-esteem 保护孩子们的自尊
preserve the lives of the passengers 保护乘客的生命安全
preserve...from... 保护...免于... =protect...from...
? preserve 保护，亦指保存，使完好无损
conserve 保护，保存 强调珍惜、节用
reserve 指保留意见、看法。另外，还有预定座位的意思
4. relief---relieve
to one's great relief=much to one's relief 使某人甚为欣喜/宽慰的是
give a sigh of relief 宽慰地松口气
relief from pain 缓解痛苦
send relief to sb 给某人送救济
relieve sb of... 解除某人负担，减轻某人痛苦 eg: relieve sb of the extra work
去掉/除额外工作
relieve sb form anxiety 消除某人忧虑
5. be prepared to do sth 准备做...
prepare sth 准备某物 prepare supper
prepare for...=be ready for... 准备...
be well prepared for sth/to do sth... 为...做好充分准备
make preparations for... 为...做准备
6. lead to ... 1) 通向... All roads lead to Rome.
2) 导致（相当于result in) His careless driving led to the accident.
3) lead sb to do sth/in doing sth 带领某人做某事 ... lead us to carry out the
reform ... 领导我们进行改革
4) lead a ... life 过着...生活 lead a miserable life
7. clear away 清除，消除；散去 the clouds/mist cleared away 云/雾消散
clear up 1) 天气放晴 It is not likely to clear up. 天晴的可能不大。
2）澄清，弄清 I'd like to clear up two points.
3) 整理，收拾 clear up one's room/the mess
clear out 1) 清理 clear out the drawer 清理抽屉
2）腾出 clear out the room for sb
3）清洗 clear out the oil tank 清洗油罐
8. put forward 1) 提出 put forward a point of view/question 提出观点/问题
2）推荐 put sb forward as the chairman of the committee
3) 提前 The air attack has been put forward an hour. 空袭提前了1小时。
?put aside 放在一边；存储 put away 收/放好 put out 熄（灭）火
put up 举起；张贴；搭建
put through 1) 接通电话 = get through
2) 使经历= go through
