President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov asked
Russian President Vladimir Putin to extend the law “On
rehabilitation of repressed peoples” to cover the Crimean
Tatars.
During the meeting, Minnikhanov told Putin about his trips to Crimea and meetings with Crimean Tatars.
“Seventy years ago they were repressed…In any case it would be good if the acting law of 1991 (“On rehabilitation of repressed peoples”) would cover the Crimean Tatars. It would be a serious moral support to Crimean Tatars,” said Minnikhanov.
Minnikhanov also told Putin that Crimean Tatar activists would like to meet with him and share their vision and plans with him.
Tatarstan President also pointed out the necessity to legalize self-returned land by Crimean Tatars and provide infrastructural support to it, possibly through creation of a special program.
