of＋抽象名词的用法

一、of＋抽象名词，可表示事物的性质或特征，相当于该抽象名词的形容词：
of value
＝valuable有价值的
of importance
＝important重要的
of use
＝useful有用的
二、of＋抽象名词结构中常用抽象名词有两类：
1．value，use，importance，help，interest，honor，courage，fame，nature，beauty，wealth等。这类名词前可用no，some，any，little，much，great等词修饰。
Such changes are of little importance
．这种变化是不大重要的。
Theory without practice is of little
help．没有实践的理论是没有什么帮助的。
Is this of any use to
you？这对你有用吗？
They are of much
value．它们是很有价值的。
2．size，price，age，shape，length，depth，color，weight，
width，height，quality，opinion等。
这类抽象名词前可用a，an，the
same，different，good等修饰。
These flags are of different
colors．这些旗帜颜色不同。
三、of＋抽象名词，可表达以下几种意义：
1．表示“具备”、“具有”。如：
Her story is of some color of the
truth．她的故事有点真实感。
They are of great help to learners of
English．它们对英语学习者大有帮助。2．表示“属于”。如：
The products are of first-rate
quality．这些产品的质量是属于第一流的。
Mr. Smith，my
teacher，is of the same opinion．＝Mr.
Smith，my teacher，has the same
opinion．
3．表示“年龄”、“组成”、“出身”、“等级”等。如：
He was of a poor peasant
family．他出身贫农家庭。
We are of the same
age．我们年龄相同。
四、of＋抽象名词的句法作用：
1．作表语(最常用)：如：
Their experience is of great
significance．他们的经验是很有意义的。
This problem is of different
nature．这个问题是属于不同性质的。
Good intonation is of great
importance．语调好很重要。
This dictionary is of great
help．这本词典是很有帮助的。
2．作宾语补足语：如：
I consider what he said of little
importance．我认为他所说的并没有什么重要性。
We all think his words of great
importance．我们都认为他的话非常重要。
3．作状语：如：
Man must，of
necessity，die．人必然会有一死。
