Kirkwood, MO (KSDK) - It's not every day that most
people get a note from a billionaire, but that's exactly what
happened to Kirkwood High School student Alex Matheis.
NewsChannel 5 talked to Alex about his 'Dear Mr. Warren Buffett'
letter and the response he received.
The 16-year-old Kirkwood sophomore got an assignment: write a
business letter to someone you admire, and Alex Mattheis admires
investment guru Warren Buffett.
Alex and his classmates composed their letters on computers
, but teacher Colleen Murphy had them hand-sign, address, and
actually mail their letters.
A Google-search produced Warren Buffett's address, and Alex mailed
his letter to Omaha, Nebraska.
A few weeks later, to Alex's surprise, Warren Buffett, the Oracle
of Omaha himself, wrote him back.
It was a short note.
'Alex, thank you for writing. Too much mail for me to answer all of
your questions. Good luck! Warren Buffett,' said the letter.
A short, signed note was all it took to make Alex the talk of the
school!
Teacher Colleen Murphy says there's more to her classes than just
writing to famous people such Warren Buffet. She hopes that Alex
and the other students will learn lessons that will stay with them
for life.
Alex wants to go into the investment business, and maybe attend
Washington University. He says Buffett's note will be framed and
he'll hang in up when he opens his own office.
