the exact description of our destination, the charming mountain
city Chongqing. Seated in the south-east of China, the over
three-thousand-year-old Chongqing city is named as the “mountain
city” because it was constructed on a mountain in conformity with
the natural geographic features. Embraced by two rivers in
three directions, Chongqing is worthy of the fame as a mountain
city towering above the water. Sofitel Forebase Chongqing, where we
resided, perfectly blends in with the loftiness and elegance while
emanating unique charms.
It has been our third trip to a Sofitel hotel. The previous two
interviews in Shanghai and Hangzhou have left a favorable
impression on us, which naturally led to new expectations and
fancies for the new trip.
In the vicinity of the two landmarks of Chongqing, the Olympic
Center and Chengjiaping Exhibition Center, the 27-storey Sofitel
Forebase Chongqingstands out among the embracing mountain and water
with a lofty grandeur. Even the permeating fog and shadowing clouds
could not veil its splendor. The sublime appearance of the hotel is
a perfect shell for the crafty details inside. One could not help
marveling at the balanced combination of the French luxury and the
Chinese delicacy. The 464 guest rooms and suites include 160 open
plan studio apartments. All suites and executive floors are
furnished with Hermes and L’Occitaine bathroom products. Several
hundred Hermes scarves are displayed in the public areas and guest

expresses the artistic taste of the hotel and is also a
representation of the everlasting relationship between brands and
art. The room decoration, attending to various detailed

Corresponding to professional meeting facilities, the fitness
center features 8 top SPA rooms, each of which is divided into
sauna and massaging bath sections. It is a perfect place to release
all the tension and pressures. Other relaxations include an indoor
heated pool designed by internationally renowned architect, a mini
cinema, a high-class indoor golf course, a billiard room and a
mah-jong room. Any place would be a wonderful choice for guests to
spoil themselves with their family and friends. It is here that
fashion and culture blend well with each other for an excellent
explanation of the Sofitel motto that “Life is Magnifique”.
We were both amazed at the considerate service provided by Sofitel
Forebase Chongqing and touched by the smiling faces all over the
place. Wandering in the luxurious surrounding, we were constantly
greeted by the soft “Bonjour”, just like what would happen in
Paris. Each staff is addressed as an ambassador with a distinct
French name. The unique greeting in French, friendly expressions
and meticulous service add a romantic appeal to the hotel. Some
ambassadors would even remember the guests they have served before
and greet them with their names in a naturally friendly way. Such
an appropriate intimacy reflects the successful training programs
at the hotel.
The pervading French flavor in the hotel invites further
exploration for its special charm. Unexpected yet somewhat
predicted by us, Sofitel Forebase Chongqing pleasantly surprised us
with its internationalized restaurants and bars. Bamboo Pavilion
provides creative Chinese cuisine, featuring classical Cantonese
dishes. Moreover, the Head Chef Mr. Liang fuses the spicy taste of
Sichuan dishes into the traditional Cantonese flavor. The western
restaurant Spices offers a wide variety of international food and a
buffet island with show cooking. The French Head Chef inherits
classical French cooking traditions to present in fusion dishes.
The exclusive three French cuisine menus will open the gate to a
food fantasy. The elegant Wafu offers a selection of Japanese
cuisine, with a sushi counter, tatami room and hibachi table. On a
peaceful afternoon, one can also choose to relax and enjoy a
traditional British afternoon tea at The Point bar in the lobby. At
the same time, the mellow smell of Cuban cigars, high quality rum
and cocktails, and live music from the first Latin American band in
Chongqing turn Fidels into an irresistible temptation. All
restaurants and bars have distinctive features and share the same
luxury and romance. Sofitel Forebase Chongqing has painted an
exotic strike on the canvas of an inland city. Such an
internationalized unity of different charms is satisfying.
Yet the hotel is not satisfied, and is creating more pleasant
surprises for its guests.
Chongqing has another nickname the “River City” as it lies along

form a spectacular scene of multiple layers and depths.

fivestar hotel in Chongqing to own a cruise. Completely equipped
and with a 30-person capacity, the cruise is a perfect choice for

in accordance with guests’ demands. The French Head Chef
Christophe, with work experience in a Michelin two-star restaurant,
would deliver a special French buffet, ranging from cold dishes and
various desserts to French muffins freshly cooked on the cruise. In

with the gentle waving of the river, create an extravagant French
air and romantic rhythm. Guests can enjoy the splendid night view
along the two rivers and listen to melodious French music during
the meal. It is a one hundred percent French romance.
