that day, this day, these days, those days 前是否用介词的问题比较复杂，有时还与固定搭配有关，但对于初学者来说，掌握以下几点会有所帮助：
■that day 的意思是“那天”，通常用作状语，表示过去时间，其前通常不用介词。如：
It was bitterly cold that day. 那天天气很冷。
We weren’t in town that day. 那天我们不在城里。
Pure chance had brought us together that day. 我们那天相遇纯属偶然。
They met that day to discuss the plan. 那天他们开会讨论这个计划。
She was in gloves because it was rather cold that day. 她戴了手套是因为那一天相当寒冷。
■this day 的意思是“今天”（其前通常不用介词），但这是很正式的用法，在普通情况下，尤其是口语中用得较少。如：
We have this day commissioned
a memorial in the general’s honour. 今天我们已委托人为将军树碑。
在通常情况下，我们用 today 表示“今天”。如：
I have a number of important things to do today. 今天我有许多重要事情要做。
It won’t make much difference whether you go today or tomorrow. 你今天去也好，明天去也好，关系不大。
英语中有个习语 in this day and age，意思是“当今”，与 nowadays, these days 等同义。如：

注意某些习语的用法，如 to this day 表示“至今”“直到今天”。如：

■these days 的意思是“近来”“如今”“现在”，其前习惯上不加介词。如：
I rarely see her these days. 近来我很少见到她。
A pound doesn’t go far these days. 现今一英镑不经一用。
News travels quickly these days. 近来消息传播得很快。
Jobs are hard to come by these days. 近来，很难找到工作。
I don’t have much time to read these days. 我这些日子没什么时间读书。
■those days 前通常要用介词 in，短语 in those days 的意思是“那时”“当时”“那年头”“那年月”等，in those days 在许多情况下与 at that time 意思相同。如：
We were poor in those days. 那时我们很穷。
Life was hard in those days. 在那些日子里，生活很苦。
I was still living with my parents in those days. 我那时还跟父母住在一起。
Only a small number of people went abroad in those days. 那时只有少数人出国。
It wasn’t quite the done thing for women to drink in pubs in those days. 那年月女的到酒店喝酒可不成体统。
注意：these days 与 in those days 虽然形式相近，但其中的一个习惯上要用介词，而另一个则习惯上不用介词，注意不要搞混淆了。
