Copyright is a controversial topic since the Internet keeps impacting the society. Copyright includes rights to copy, to distribute and adapt or change one's work. It also helps protect the work from misusing by others, and insure the authors can get benefits from their work. Due to characteristics of Internet, such as anonymous, global, numerical ways of presenting and different situations in each countries, to set up an Internet law is such a pain in the ass.
However, not only the author can benefits from his work, but the general public should receive the benefits. WHY?
As, we all know, the author spent time and effort for one piece of product. He deserves to reward. Why the public, as the consumers benefit from that as well?
Today's society is not the generation of creating, but recreating. Nearly every work existing today more or less come from the previous knowledge. People must have been influenced by others and the existing works. So, to some extent, we, the gen
eral public is the author to those works. What is more, the original ideas are essential to society, the creativity. If a new work gets wide access to society. It is more likely for more people to take advantage of it and create another new useful work. Imagine that one keeps his work individually. It can be viewed as useless. Because, others cannot use it. If the whole society cannot use it, the society cannot move on and make improvement. Therefore, the general society should benefits from the new work. The difference might be this benefit is more intangible.
Entering 21th century, we are in the informational mode of development. More manufactures rely on information. We are encouraged to share ideas and works. With more people access to new invention, there is more possibility for us to invent more. And in the end, the benefits will be used by all. That might be an aspect of the general public to benefit.
