《采葛》英译

这次课以“一日不见,如隔三秋”的翻译开始,老师讲评了几个翻译版本:
版本一:I miss you so
much that it’s
been like three years since
we met each other
yesterday.
版本二:Even not
seeing for just one day
is like we’ve
been apart for three
years.
这两个版本都足以达意,但有些累赘,没有原句精炼的效果。
版本三:Even no seeing
for just one day is like
apart for three
years.
此版本犯了语法错误,no应该为not, seeing
后边应该加上宾语,apart
是形容词或者副词词性,不能直接加在like后边,apart前加上being 就正确了。
版本四:A day
without you seems to be
three years without
you.
此版本前后用了两个without you
显得累赘,可以把后一个without you 删掉。
我们又翻译了《采葛》这首诗:
彼采葛兮,
一日不见,
如三月兮。
彼采萧兮,
一日不见,
如三秋兮。
彼采艾兮,
一日不见,
如三岁兮。
赵老师的两个版本都堪称精品,既讲究了韵脚,又讲究了翻译的精炼传神:
版本一:
The radix she does
pick:
One day I don’t see
him
Is like three months
I’m
sick.
The wormwood she does
pick:
One day I don’t see
him
Is like three falls
I’m
sick.
The mugwort she does
pick:
One day I don’t see
him
Is like three years
I’m
sick.
版本二:
She radix does
gather:
One
day I don’t see
him;
For three months I
suffer.
She
wormwood does gather:
One
day I don’t see
him;
For
three falls I
suffer.

mugwort does gather:
One day I don’t see

所以Translation is
not language into
language, but poesie
into
poesie即翻译不是语言对语言,而是要翻译出诗的意境。另外翻译中还要注意悬置法则(ceterus
parabus rule),即其他条件等同(other things being
equal)下的语码转换。也就是说把不相关的悬置,在句法研究中并不是没有语义,的确有语义,只是在研究句法时将语义悬置。
任雨玲在《走正规化的学术探讨之路》一文中说道:译诗是高度辩证的制衡机制与审美行为。所谓辩证,它是不忠而忠、不等而等的调配;所谓制衡,它是依权重而逐层否决的仲裁;所谓审美,它是以可视可听可感的意象营造而直入心境。但它决不是没有标准,只是标准不是机械的、僵死的,一成不变的。它恪守悬置法则。我十分赞同这一说法,争取能应用到自己的诗歌翻译中去。
